Once you’ve moved to your new home, it’s common to have furniture that doesn’t fit or match your new surroundings. Or that you feel it’s time to donate and buy some new pieces for your new home. Besides selling your furniture or giving it away to family and friends, donating to a charity organisation is a great way to help those in your community. It’s a great way to help those in need and declutter your new space.

Most places will only accept second-hand items that are clean and can be resold; anything that is broken or not in good condition will need to go to the tip instead.

Here are some of the top places on the Gold Coast you can donate your furniture, and many have pick up delivery services. The team at The Removals Group can assist providing any extra information you may need!

Salvation Army Stores (Salvos Stores)

Not all the Salvos stores on the Gold Coast will accept furniture so it’s a good idea to call ahead and find out what they are accepting. 100 per cent of sales go to supporting The Salvation Army programme which gives to people in need in the community. They can arrange a pick-up service in most areas on the Gold Coast.

GIVIT is a national not-for-profit organisation that connects those in need privately and safely. GIVIT works around Australia to help those most impoverished and venerable in your local community. Check you the listings on their website to see if you have furniture that fit what they need.

Through Lifeline’s stores across the state, furniture sales help fund their 24 hours 13 11 14 Lifeline Support Crisis line which can help save a person’s life. Lifeline accepts furniture items in good, useable condition, so be sure only to donate items you would consider purchasing yourself. Contact your local Lifeline for drop off locations or request a free pick up service.

St Vincent de Paul Society

St Vincent de Paul Society, also known as Vinnies, is one of the easiest ways to donate unwanted furniture on the Gold Coast. Donating your goods to Vinnies allows you to support Australians who are most in need in your local community. Smaller items of furniture can be dropped at a local Vinnie’s outlet and oversized items will need to be scheduled for a pickup. This can be organised on 13 18 12.

Animal Welfare League Queensland

If you’re an animal lover, you can help cats and dogs by donating your furniture to the Animal Welfare League Queensland. Head to an AWLQ op-shop where you can donate items of furniture. If you have more oversized items, you can call them or fill an online form on their website, and they will be in touch to schedule a pick-up. Volunteers run AWLQ op shops to raise funds for animals through the sale of donated goods.

Rize Up

Reup is a charity with various programs supporting families of domestic violence.
